Geneva Ass’n., I.I.S. Announce New Research Program

The Swiss-based Geneva Association and The International Insurance Society, Inc., headquartered in New York, have announced plans to form a new insurance research program designed to produce high quality practical research on current issues in the industry.

According to Patrick Liedtke, Secretary General of The Geneva Association, and Patrick Kenny, I.I.S. President and CEO, the new program is “dedicated to fulfilling a need of the insurance business to investigate non-theoretical subjects which directly influence daily business and operational concerns on a practical level.”

They noted that “in the insurance area, we often see distinguished theoretical research, but our aim is to spotlight some of the practical, daily issues of concern to business around the world, including capital risk, insurance cycles and regulatory issues.”

The research will be presented at the annual seminar of the International Insurance Society, which meets in Hong Kong in 2005. Research will also be printed in a special issue of The Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance – Issues and Practice.

The research is being supported by both organizations and by American International Group’s, Starr Foundation, Bermuda’s Partner Re, Bermuda; and Korea’s Kyobo Life. Awards of up to $10,000 each will be presented each year for outstanding papers.
