… And Now Online, the Insurance Hall of Fame

September 2, 2004

A new website, www.InsuranceHallofFame.org, has been created by the International Insurance Society to feature insurance leaders from around the globe who have made creative and lasting contributions in the insurance world.

Since its inception in 1957, 112 people from 20 countries have been installed. The portraits of insurance laureates reside at the University of Alabama, and a digital gallery of the leaders is in New York at
St. John’s University.

“This is the first time that anyone can find in one place — from
anywhere in the world — information about the giants in our industry and
their accomplishments and impact on society. This will be a valuable tool for those who wish to learn about the evolution of the industry over the years and the significance of accomplishments in the industry. Also, it will be a source of pride for those who wish to learn about the leaders in their own countries,” said Patrick Kenny, president and chief executive officer, International Insurance Society, Inc., New York, which manages the Insurance Hall of Fame.

The site promises to feature photos, biographies and in
some cases video material of the insurance leaders. The material can be accessed by country or alphabetically by name.

The website has been funded by Claire and Joseph Smetana of New York. Smetana is a retired executive of American International Group (AIG).

Each year, the International Insurance Society inducts two new laureates into the Hall of Fame at its yearly meeting. Qualification for the honor includes achievements that have changed the direction of the industry.
