Nearly 50 Injured in German Train Crash
Police say nearly 50 people were injured when a regional train hit a car in eastern Germany.
Federal police spokesman Torsten Henkel said the train crashed into the car that was hit by another vehicle and pushed onto the tracks in Lauterbach, between Leipzig and Chemnitz.
He says the driver of the car managed to get out before the accident, but the train couldn’t stop in time.
He says three of the train cars derailed and one tipped over on its side, injuring nine people seriously. Another 40 people received minor injuries.
Rescue crews were on the scene and helicopters flew the most seriously injured to local hospitals for treatment.
