Traffic Accident Kills 21 People in Pakistan
A government health official says 21 people have been killed in a collision between a bus and a passenger van in southern Pakistan.
Sagheer Ahmed says the vehicles were traveling to the city of Karachi from Thatta, 80 miles (130 kilometers) to the east, when the accident happened Sunday. More than a dozen people were injured. Ahmed is the health minister in Sindh province, where Karachi is the capital.
Saeed Javed witnessed the accident and said it was so violent that body parts were scattered near the road.
Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for deadly traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
