Avalanche in Alps Kill 2 Skiers in Italy
Rescuers have found the bodies of two Italian skiers who were killed by an avalanche in Italy’s Alps.
The Italian news agency ANSA said the rescuers found the remains on Saturday night near a lake about 10 hours after the avalanche, but had to wait until daybreak Sunday to remove the bodies. The avalanche occurred near the town of Moeno in the Val di Fiemme, a valley in the South Tyrol area.
Nearby, another avalanche rushed past four Italians who were hiking on Saturday after taking off their skis. All survived, with one suffering a broken leg, ANSA said.
On a separate peak in the valley, six Russians were killed on Friday night when their snowmobile towing a sled defied a ban on vehicles on a dangerous slope and crashed.
