Fire Rages Through Historic Istanbul Building
Turkey’s state-run agency says firefighters in Istanbul are working to extinguish a blaze raging through a historic former mansion that is now part of a university campus.
No one is believed to be trapped inside the wooden building used by the prestigious Galatasaray University, and there were no reports of any injuries.
Anadolu Agency reports that the fire started in the third-floor classroom late on Tuesday and quickly spread through the 140-year-old building.
Footage from the private Dogan news agency showed tall flames and smoke rising from the roof of the former Ottoman mansion, which is adjacent to a sultans’ palace.
