Discover Re Unveils Chicago Office

Discover Re, the Farmington-based alternative risk transfer insurance subsidiary of The St. Paul Companies, has opened an office in Chicago.

The Chicago office – a “satellite” office reporting to Discover Re’s Pittsburgh regional office – is located at 200 South Wacker Drive. It will serve brokers and agents in the Chicago metro area with marketing and underwriting capability for Discover Re’s Core division. Core provides “unbundled” alternative risk transfer insurance programs for large commercial accounts.

“The new Chicago office provides brokers in this important market with more direct access to Discover Re’s alternative risk transfer experience,” said Dick Cartland, president of Discover Re’s Core division.

Paula Jagla has been appointed vice president, Discover Re, and manager of the Chicago office. A longtime insurance professional, Jagla has held senior marketing and underwriting posts at both the Kemper Insurance Company and CNA. Before joining Discover Re, she was managing executive, National Accounts at Kemper.

Discover Re serves the rapidly growing alternative risk transfer market, which includes self-insureds, captive insurance companies, risk retention groups and risk purchasing groups, and many other users of non-traditional insurance. It specializes in automobile liability, general liability, umbrella liability, workers’ compensation and property coverages. It does most of its business with retail and service firms, manufacturers, municipalities, schools and transportation companies.
