Nebraska Woman to Stand Trial on Embezzlement Charge
A North Platte woman accused of stealing from a clinic and defrauding an insurance company will stand trial on fraud and theft charges.
Sherri Smith has pleaded not guilty to theft and fraud counts in Lincoln County District Court.
Police say the 35-year-old Smith took $8,500 from the Hoover Chiropractic Center, where she worked. Investigators also say she bilked an insurance company out of $68,000. Investigators found other insurance transactions sent through Smith’s bank account for more than $11,000.
Police say Smith sought reimbursement for chiropractic treatments that she and her family members received free of charge at the clinic.
Smith’s trial it set for July 8.
