Elderly Iowa Woman to Stand Trial for Arson
An elderly Newton, Iowa woman charged with starting a fire at the home of a family member will stand trial in February.
Eighty-year-old Ruth Marshall, who is charged with second-degree arson, entered a not guilty plea during an arraignment. Her trial is set for Feb. 18.
Court documents say Marshall allegedly used gasoline, lighter fluid and a newspaper to start a blaze at the home on Nov. 5.
The home, which had been for sale but recently taken off the market, sustained an estimated $50,000 in damages.
Marshall faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
