Hail Damages Crops Across 5 Iowa Counties
Damage from an Aug. 9 hailstorm that tore through corn and soybeans fields in northern Iowa is expected to be in the millions.
The hail hit along U.S. Highway 20 in Webster, Calhoun, Hamilton, Hardin and Grundy counties.
Officials estimate damage just in Hardin County could be around $30 million, where the hail tore a swath of damage about 25 miles long and five miles wide. Hardin County Extension Agent Darwin Miller says it’s the worst he’s ever seen.
The Hardin County town of Eldora also was hit hard. Eleven people suffered minor injuries in the hailstorm that shattered windows and shredded siding.
