Parents of Missouri Crash Victim File Wrongful Death Suit
The parents of a teenager who died in a June 2008 accident in Pettis County are suing the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.
Melissa Lohrmeyer and Sean Godfrey allege the negligence of the commission resulted in the death of their 17-year-old son, Phillip R. Godfrey.
The Sedalia Democrat reported that he died at the Flat Creek Bridge on state Route M after the vehicle in which he was a passenger struck the end of the bridge and caught fire.
The petition says that “neither Route M nor the one-lane bridge over Flat Creek had any guardrails or other protection to safeguard against vehicles striking the bridge directly.”
The state Department of Transportation did not respond to requests from The Sedalia Democrat to comment on the lawsuit.
