Costs in North Dakota State Building Collapse Rise to $1M
Officials at North Dakota State University expect costs associated with the collapse of a section of the 100-year-old Minard Hall will increase to at least $1 million. The university had previously filed an insurance claim of $500,000.
The northwest wall of the four-story building fell Dec. 27. Excavation work being done on that side of the building by Meineke Johnson Construction as part of the $18 million Minard Renovation Project is thought to have weakened the soil around the building’s foundation.
NDSU Interim President Richard Hanson estimates that the collapse will cost the university at least $1 million, including the cost of demolishing portions of Minard Hall.
