Indiana Town Paying $150K to Settle Police Excessive Force Suit
The city of South Bend, Ind., has agreed to pay $150,000 to settle a federal lawsuit that claimed three police officers used excessive force on a 14-year-old boy.
The lawsuit said that the officers unnecessarily shocked the boy with a stun gun and let a police dog bite him after the youth ran away from one of the officers in March 2005.
The settlement agreement filed in federal court says that the city doesn’t admit to wrongdoing by the officers.
The lawsuit said police didn’t quickly seek medical care for the teen after the dog bit his foot, which needed a skin graft and remains deformed.
