Former Ohio Insurance Agent Convicted on Theft Charges
Ohio Department of Insurance Director Mary Jo Hudson has announced that former insurance agent Jamie Smith of Bowling Green, Ohio, has been convicted on one count of felony theft in the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas.
Director Hudson has also revoked Smith’s resident agent license for violations of Ohio insurance law.
A department investigation, with assistance from the Toledo Police Department, revealed that in December 2008, Smith admitted to the misappropriation of premiums from the agency that employed her.
On July 29, 2010, she pled guilty to the theft charge and was sentenced to three years of community control, ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $3,203.14 and to seek and maintain gainful employment.
Smith’s resident insurance license was revoked effective Aug. 25, 2010.
