North Dakota Brothers Sentenced in Insurance Fraud Scheme

January 13, 2011

Two brothers accused of causing more than three dozen car crashes in Fargo, N.D., over two years in an insurance fraud scheme will be jailed for 30 days.

The Forum newspaper reports that 44-year-old Sead Mustafic and 25-year-old Senad Mustafic entered Alford pleas to a racketeering charge called illegal control of an enterprise, and other charges including theft were dismissed. An Alford plea means a suspect does not admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence for a conviction.

Authorities allege the brothers collected insurance claims ranging from $1,000 to $7,000 in 37 staged accidents. The Mustafics are Bosnian immigrants and could face deportation.
