Copper Thieves Hit Parks and Golf Courses in Nebraska
Copper thieves are targeting parks and golf courses in Omaha, stealing everything from wiring on light poles to plumbing fixtures.
KETV-TV in Omaha says the pilfering is costing taxpayers thousands of dollars in replacement and repair costs. Officials say at least six parks or golf courses were hit during the winter.
Park maintenance manager Brook Bench estimates the damage just at LynchPark at $2,000 in cut copper and missing plumbing. Bench says there’s basically no water for the park – including the ball fields, the restrooms and the drinking fountain.
Bench says it’s not clear when his department will have a chance to fix the damage. He also says they’re working on ways to stop the thefts in the future.
No arrests have been made.
