Company Fined for Worker’s Death at University of Iowa
An Iowa construction company has been fined $14,000 for safety violations in a fatal January accident on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City.
The Gazette of Cedar Rapids is reporting that the Occupational Safety and Health Bureau of the Iowa Division of Labor Services issued one citation, listing six serious violations, to Iowa Bridge and Culvert Inc., of Washington.
Kevin Hammons, of Washington, was working with Iowa Bridge and Culvert on Jan. 24 to restore Art Building West on the UI arts campus. A steel beam fell on top of Hammons.
Iowa Bridge and Culvert also was cited for serious safety violations in 2009 during another project near the university. It paid a $5,400 fine.
