Iowa Bicyclist Blamed in Fatal Collision
A jury has ruled that a pickup driver was negligent but should bear only 20 percent of the blame for the death of a bicyclist in Mason City.
Dawn Lind has sued Mark Hulsing Jr, and the truck’s owner, Vernon Hulsing.
Lind’s husband, 49-year-old Richard Lind, was fatally injured late one night in July 2008 when his bicycle collided with the pickup. The lawsuit says Mark Hulsing turned left in front of a northbound Lind, without warning.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that the jury assigned Mark Hulsing only 20 percent of the fault, attributing the rest of the fault to Richard Lind, so no damages were awarded to Dawn Lind.
Police say Rick Lind did not have lights on his bicycle and was wearing dark clothing.
