Amtrak: Chicago’s Union Station Safe After Concrete Falls
Amtrak officials say they’re still not sure what caused a large piece of concrete to fall and strike a Metra locomotive in downtown Chicago.
The Chicago Tribune reports that the rail agency said its platforms are safe for pedestrians to use following the incident this week at Union Station.
The platform was empty at the time and there are no reported injuries.
Metra spokesman Tom Miller says it’s unclear the extent of the damage. The platform track reopened Friday following repairs. The locomotive was moved to a rail yard for inspection.
