Latest Drenching Closes Ohio Roads, Floods Rivers
A day of record rainfall has closed water-logged streets throughout Ohio and is pushing rivers out of their banks for the second time in a week.
The National Weather Service says the Cincinnati area received 2.76 inches of rain on Monday, the most ever recorded on Dec. 5. Columbus and Dayton also set rainfall records for the day.
In many parts of the state, standing water put roads off limits Tuesday morning. Minor to moderate flooding was reported along waterways including the Blanchard River, which has frequently swamped the city of Findlay in northwest Ohio. The Ohio River at Cincinnati was near flood stage on Tuesday.
Several Ohio rivers and streams also flooded last week, following a soaking that stretched over several days.
