Indiana’s Purdue University Studies Motorists Most Likely to Crash
A Purdue University study that looked at which motorists are the most accident-prone has found that older men are the most likely age and gender group to crash and be severely injured in wintry road conditions.
Purdue professor of civil engineering Charles Pankow tells the Journal & Courier that he and his colleagues had expected to find that men 45 and older would be cautious on snowy or icy roads based on their driving experiences.
But Pankow says older men turned out to be significantly more likely to be severely injured.
And when those men got behind the wheel of pickup trucks and drove in wintry conditions he says they were about 80 percent more likely to be injured than older men driving other types of vehicles.
