Contract Awarded for South Dakota Causeway Repairs
A Rapid City, S.D., company has landed a $2.6 million contract to rebuild a flood-damaged causeway that connects the city of Pierre to LaFromboise Island on the Missouri River.
The Army Corps of Engineers awarded the contract to Ainsworth-Benning of Wyoming Inc., one of three bidders on the project. The work is expected to start in mid-April and take about six months to complete.
Crews will reconstruct the 1,400-foot-long causeway, including replacing a 500-foot-section washed away by floodwaters last summer. City crews also will work on water lines to four city water wells on the island.
The causeway is a popular place for people to walk, bike and fish.
