No Decorating Fire Hydrants in Nebraska City
North Platte, Neb., fire officials are telling residents not to paint or decorate fire hydrants to spruce up the neighborhood.
KNOP-TV says officials say while the hydrants can be an eyesore, they need to be seen.
City Fire Marshall George Lewis says fire hydrants are either yellow or red so firefighters can see them in the hurry. He says that won’t happen if people are painting them a different color or planting bushes and fences in front of them.
Lewis also says fire hydrants are city property and painting them is against the fire code. Lewis says he’ll send a letter to those in question giving them 30 days to correct the situation.
