Jockeys Hospitalized in Horse Pileup at Nebraska Track
Two jockeys remain hospitalized after an accident involving six horses during a race at a Lincoln, Neb., track.
Armando Martinez, Jordan Olesiak and Chris Fackler were taken to a Lincoln hospital after Saturday afternoon’s accident at the Lincoln Race Course. Olesiak’s agent, Dan Coughlin, told the Lincoln Journal Star that Martinez was in intensive care with broken bones in his face, while Olesiak suffered pulled ligaments in his hip and Fackler was being treated for a concussion.
A hospital spokeswoman says Martinez was in serious condition Sunday and Olesiak was in fair. Fackler has been released.
The accident happened as Martinez’s horse, Valentine Twist, clipped the heels of another horse, unseating Martinez and causing a chain reaction that toppled five other horses.
No horses were seriously injured.
