Ambulance Driver Cited in Iowa Accident
The driver of a Mason City, Iowa, fire department ambulance has been ticketed in a collision that happened on the way to the hospital.
The Globe Gazette says the driver was cited for failure of caution of an emergency vehicle.
The driver and two other firefighters were taking a person to the hospital when the ambulance was broadsided by an SUV on Sunday. Police say the ambulance approached the intersection while the light was red, slowed down and then continued through the light. Police say ambulances are required to come to a complete stop before proceeding.
Officials say the person in the ambulance was transferred to another ambulance for the trip to the hospital.
The firefighters and a passenger in the SUV were treated for minor injuries.
