Vandalism Carries Hefty Price Tag for Illinois School
Vandals who sprayed the contents of four fire extinguishers all around a gymnasium have left officials at the west-central Illinois school facing a hefty bill for clean-up costs.
The (Peoria) Journal Star reports the bill could go as high as $85,000 to clean up Cuba Middle/Senior High School.
School Superintendent Brad Kenser says the district is considering a variety of bids to clean the entire gym, with the lowest bid coming in at $46,000. The district says having the staff do some of the work could reduce that, with bids for the smaller job ranging from $26,000 to $45,000.
The vandalism took place a few days before high school graduation in May. Thirteen 13 people – mostly teenagers – were arrested.
