South Dakota Homeowner Seeks Protection From Range Bullets
A South Dakota homeowner says her son came under fire from a nearby rifle range while he was working on the family’s property.
Kellee Valnes wants the Minnehaha County Commission to order the Big Sioux Rifle and Pistol Club to make additional safety improvements. The range is two miles northeast of Brandon.
The club’s lawyer says the range hasn’t violated any conditions of its use permit.
Valnes tells the Sioux Falls Argus Leader that last May, her son was working on a pond on the family’s property when he heard bullets pass overhead. One bullet hit an ATV her son had been riding.
She says her home was hit by two bullets in June 2011.
A sheriff’s captain will tour the range and report on any safety concerns.
