Michigan Fire Marshal Urges People to Find Back Exits
Michigan’s fire marshal has some safety tips for people to remember if they’re caught in the sort of fire that killed hundreds of people at a nightclub in Brazil.
Fire Marshal Richard Miller says people should identify back exits because in most fires they try to get out the same way they came in. He also says to be wary if there aren’t any sprinkler heads and to avoid events that are jam-packed.
Miller says people also should consider leaving a show if indoor fireworks are used and should be wary of indoor pyrotechnics.
Other tips include ducking down to cleaner air if smoke gets thick and breaking out windows as another way to escape.
