Fire-Damaged Illinois Hotel to Be Demolished
A once historic hotel in Quincy, Ill., has been gutted by fire and is being demolished by crews.
The blaze at the long vacant Newcomb Hotel broke out late Friday. Quincy Fire Chief Joe Henning told reporters that the building was completely destroyed. He says about 30 firefighters battled the blaze.
The Quincy Herald-Whig reports demolition was slated for Sunday and expected to be completed by evening.
The hotel first opened in 1888 but had been empty for years.
City officials had recently agreed to enter negotiations with a developer to possibly renovate the building into apartments.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
