Flood Appointed Michigan’s Insurance Director; Clinton Named State Treasurer

Ann Flood has been selected to lead the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services upon the appointment of current Commissioner Kevin Clinton as state treasurer, the office of Gov. Rick Snyder announced.

Clinton replaces Andy Dillon as state treasurer; Dillon submitted his resignation last week.

Flood has been serving as chief deputy director of the DIFS.

While serving as the DIFS chief deputy director, Flood was responsible for the department’s Office of General Counsel, Office of Insurance Evaluation, Office of Insurance Rates and Forms, the Budget Office, Information Technology Services and Human Resources.

She previously served as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of American Physicians Capital Inc., and prior to that was senior vice president, corporate secretary and legal counsel of ProNational Insurance Co.

Flood is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and is a registered nurse. She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Wayne State University.

Both appointments are effective Nov. 1.

Clinton’s appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the state Senate.
