Illinois State University Holds Last Motorcycle Safety Classes
The motorcycle safety program at Illinois State University has ended after 37 years.
ISU spokesman Jay Groves says a tight economy has the school looking at programs that don’t fit its core mission. He says the school will move on without the program because the state grant ISU receives doesn’t cover all administrative costs.
However program director Raymond Mucha tells The Pantgraph newspaper in Bloomington that another university will probably start providing the classes in the spring. He says the University of Illinois most likely will partner with the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The last class at Illinois State was Sunday. Mucha says the program has certified more than 80,000 people. He says every year it serves as many as 5,000 people.
