Pottery Barn Kids Recalling About 82,300 Dolls
Pottery Barn Kids is recalling approximately 82,300 of its Chloe, Sophie and Audrey dolls due to a potential strangulation hazard.
The company, a unit of Williams-Sonoma Inc. of San Francisco, said Thursday that the yarn hair of the Chloe and Sophie dolls may have loops big enough to fit around a child’s head and neck. The Audrey doll comes with a headband that can form a loop that fits around a child’s head or neck, the company and regulators said.
Pottery Barn Kids in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling 81,000 of the dolls in the U.S. and 1,300 in Canada.
The company said it has received five reports of dolls with hair that has become dangerously looped. In one case, there was a report that a loop of the Chloe doll’s hair was found around the neck of a 21-month-old child. The child was not hurt.
The dolls, part of the Pottery Barn Kids Girl Doll Collection, are about 17 inches high. Audrey’s hair is black, Chloe’s hair is dark brown and Sophie’s hair is blonde. The names of the dolls can be found on a tag sewn on their bottom.
The dolls were sold across the U.S. exclusively at Pottery Barn Kids stores, in its catalogs and online for about $40 from July 2006 through April 2011.
The company and regulator advised that the dolls be taken from children, the hair of the Chloe and Sophie dolls should be cut and the headband should be removed from the Audrey doll.
Consumers can call Pottery Barn Kids for details on how to return the dolls for a merchandise credit. The company’s recall hotline is (855) 880-4504.
