American Family Launches Home Inventory App
“Whether you rent or own, it’s important to protect your belongings,” says Bill Simon, director of digital marketing at American Family Insurance.
To upload an item to DreamVault, the user enters the item category, description, purchase date, value, serial number and a photo. The mobile version includes a unique speech-to-text function, provided by Nuance Communications, Inc., that lets a user enter items verbally.
Once information is uploaded, users can easily generate reports by room or category – and then email the reports to their insurance agent, regardless of their insurance provider. By reviewing these reports, agents can identify whether any items require different types or amounts of coverage in order to be protected.
According to the carrier, users’ data is secure. DreamVault uses 128-bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption – the highest level of online encryption possible for financial or confidential transactions. All data is stored in a secure location that is maintained, managed and backed up remotely – so there’s no need to worry that data could be damaged or lost. All data is synchronized regardless of the device used to enter the information.
