Wells Media Launches Carrier Management For P/C Insurance Executives
Without a single headline referring to a hardening property/casualty insurance market, Wells Media Group has launched a new website—CarrierManagement.com—a business management publication focusing on the needs of property/casualty insurance executives.
Through the website and a daily e-newsletter, CarrierManagement.com will serve P/C insurance company boards of directors and C-suite officers with information, data, news and exclusive articles authored by their industry peers, external consultants, researchers, analysts, academics, policymakers, other thought-leaders and veteran insurance industry journalists.
“There are other publications that target the executive suite of P/C insurance companies, but they talk mostly about insurance. Here, we’re talking more about management—about activities that don’t necessarily just relate to insurance or underwriting,” says Mark Wells, chairman of Wells Media Group.
Carrier Management Senior Editor Susanne Sclafane, a veteran insurance journalist who joined Wells Media last October, is in charge of delivering this unique content for the insurance C-suite.
“CarrierManagement.com is essentially a business management publication with a specific focus on P/C insurance,” she says.
Sclafane says the target audience includes all members of the C-suite, with specific content for chief investment officers, chief risk officers, chief technology officers—not just CEOs.
Content will include how-to and peer-to-peer guides addressing strategic planning, budgeting, talent management, brand management and investment strategies, as well as insights about how leaders can infuse a corporate culture throughout a global enterprise.
“While articles about the ups and downs of insurance cycles continue to populate other insurance media websites, leaders of insurance carriers are challenged with issues beyond cycle management,” Sclafane says, citing global regulatory initiatives, capital management strategies, technology, predictive analytics, and emerging torts.
As organization charts expand to include new executive titles, such as chief privacy officers and chief science officers, so will the content, according to Sclafane.
Recent articles address whether the Sarbanes-Oxley Act had any impact on P/C insurance reserving. In addition, CarrierManagement.com has featured articles on how insurance leaders can drive innovation in their companies—one based on an interview with XL Group’s CEO Mike McGavick, the other written by Karen Morris, an innovation and strategy consultant.
In an exclusive video interview, well-known industry analyst V.J. Dowling, of Dowling & Partners Securities, discusses returns on equity in the P/C industry.
Among the regular CarrierManagement.com contributors are Howard Mills, chief advisor for the Insurance Industry Group at Deloitte LLP and former superintendent of the New York Insurance Department; Karen Clark, who is internationally recognized as the founder of catastrophe modeling; and Fritz Yohn, founder and CEO of MarketStance.
While CarrierManagement.com will surely include articles about market cycles and insurance pricing at times, the goal is to make it “unlike any other resource out there for P/C executives,” says Andy Simpson, vice president of content for Wells Media Group.
“We want to help set the management agenda for the P/C insurance industry,” adds Simpson. “Carrier Management will hopefully inspire P/C executives who want to be better leaders and managers, and show them how.”
