Conair Recalls 570K Infiniti Pro Hair Dryers
Conair is recalling approximately 570,000 of its Infiniti Pro by Conair hair dryers because they can short out and start a fire or burn someone.
The company said that small heater coils in the barrel of the hair dryer can come into contact with adjacent coils and potentially create an electrical short. If there is an electrical short, small hot coils can project out of the dryer posing a burn or fire hazard.
Conair Corp. said Tuesday that it has received about 19 consumer reports of hot coils exiting the hair dryer, including minor property damage (one fire reported) and three minor burn injuries to consumers who sought medical attention.
The Infiniti Pro hair dryers involved in the recall are of the 259 and 279 Series and have one screw hole on the back of the hair dryer handle. Those with two screw holes are not included in the recall.
The hair dryers were sold at mass retailers, drug stores, department stores, beauty and specialty stores and online from about August 2010 to August 2013 for approximately $24.99 to $39.99.
Consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact Conair to receive a free replacement hair dryer. Conair can be reached at (877) 339-2534 between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. ET Saturday or Sunday.
