CMIC to Write Auto, Workers’ Comp in New Alliance With Catholic Mutual
Nebraska-based Catholic Mutual Group, the largest coverage provider for the Catholic Church in North America, and Church Mutual Insurance Company (CMIC), the nation’s largest insurer of religious organizations, announced a strategic alliance under which CMIC will underwrite auto and workers’ compensation insurance for all of the Catholic dioceses and other various Catholic organizations in the United States currently served by Catholic Mutual.
CMIC will now be the preferred auto and workers’ compensation underwriter for the Catholic dioceses and archdioceses, religious orders and other Catholic institutions in the United States that have coverage with Catholic Mutual. The goal of this strategic alliance will be to provide the Catholic Church with superior coverage, service and risk management at a fair price.
“This new partnership brings together two great organizations committed to religious institutions and improving the human condition,” said Mike Ravn, chief executive officer of CMIC. “We look forward to working with Catholic Mutual with a shared commitment to the insurance industry.”
“Church Mutual’s broad experience in providing faith-based organizations with automobile and workers’ compensation insurance make it the perfect fit for Catholic Mutual,” said Mike Intrieri, president and CEO of Catholic Mutual.
Catholic Mutual Group was established as the Catholic Mutual Relief Society of America in 1889 by a group of Midwest Catholic bishops who were unable to obtain reasonably priced, reliable insurance on their churches. Over the last 125 years, Catholic Mutual has grown to be the largest provider of property, liability and employee benefit coverage and related services for Catholic dioceses, religious orders and other Catholic institutions in North America. Catholic Mutual is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit that serves only Catholic Church-owned institutions. Its board of trustees consists exclusively of cardinals, archbishops and bishops.
CMIC was founded in 1897 and specializes in insurance for religious institutions of all denominations, including religious-related schools, camps, denominational offices and senior living facilities. It markets most lines of commercial property and liability insurance, including multi-peril, workers’ compensation and commercial auto insurance.
