Occupations Taking Most Time Off Due to Injury Or Illness

Merchandise displayers and window trimmers take the most time off for injury or illness, according to an analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

Flight attendants took the second most time off for these issues, while food processing workers were ranked third.

The study of occupations taking the most time off due to injury or illness from Upflip analyzed BLS injury and illness data to determine occupations with the highest percentage of cases where six days or more were taken off from work.

It found that merchandise displayers and window trimmers were taking the most time off due to injury or illness, with 1,420 cases in 2022. Of those, 1,260, or 88.73%, involved six days or more being taken off work. Additionally, 290 of these were found to be where 31 days or more were taken off work.

Flight attendants accounted for 9,450 cases where days were taken off work. Of that number, 84.6% were where six days or more were taken.

Food processing accounted for 3,200 cases of days being taken off work were for six days or more. Of that number, 520 cases were found where 31 days or more were taken off work.

Coming in fourth was telecommunications line installers and repairers with 4,700 of the 5,650 cases with days taken off work were for six days or more.

Rounding out the top five was logisticians, which recorded 1,740 cases of days taken off work in 2022.
