La. AG to Kick Off ‘ScamJam’
Louisiana Attorney General Charles C. Foti, Jr., will be the keynote speaker and will help kickoff the first annual ScamJam on Aug. 17, 2005, in Acadiana.
The AG’s office said the one-day event is aimed at educating consumers about the dangers of fraud and scams in the area. The event is hosted by the Better Business Bureau, the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, as well as other law enforcement agencies and Acadiana businesses.
The seminars and workshops will be open to the public and will include vital information on Identity Theft, counterfeit money orders, Social Security Scams, Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage and other issues affecting consumers and businesses.
Attorney General Foti will speak at a breakfast at the Heymann Convention Center at 7:30 a.m. in Lafayette, La.
“Scams today come in many different shapes and sizes,” said Attorney General Foti in the announcement. “You can have your identity stolen from your very own computer or through the mail. Fraud can be high or low tech, it doesn’t matter. We have to stay one step ahead of the criminals and these types of seminars are a way to bring that awareness to the public.”
