TDI to Provide Assistance at El Paso Disaster Recovery Center
The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) announced it has deployed staff to the Texas disaster recovery center in El Paso to assist residents with their insurance questions and claims, including workers’ compensation claims, in the wake of the area’s recent floods.
TDI staff will help consumers make contact with their insurance companies, answer questions and, if needed, file complaints. The El Paso DRC is located at 7500 Viscount, Suite 292, and is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. MDT.
Typically, homeowners insurance policies do not cover flooding. Coverage for damage caused by rising waters must be obtained from the National Flood Insurance Program offered by FEMA. Flood damage to a vehicle may be covered by auto insurance if the policy has “comprehensive” coverage.

Help Prevent Insurance Fraud
Disaster scenes often attract criminal activity. Crooked building contractors and unlicensed public insurance adjusters try to exploit the confusion and emergency conditions and cheat you and your insurance company. If you suspect fraud, please call TDI’s Fraud Hot Line toll-free at 1-888-327-8818.
