Online System in Oklahoma to Track Pawnshop Transactions

May 12, 2009

Police in Tulsa, Okla., will soon be able to track sales at pawnshops though a new online system.

The Business Watch International regional system is expected to be in operation by the end of June.

Sgt. Brandon Watkins says the system could increase the amount of stolen property recovered from pawnshops by 300 percent.

Under the current system pawnshops e-mail or mail to police the records of every pawnshop transaction and the information is entered into a police tracking system.

With the new system pawnshops will enter information about each sale into their computers with the Business Watch International software and police will be able to get the data immediately.
