Second Small Earthquake in a Week Trembles Oklahoma, No Damage
The U.S. Geological Survey recently reported a late-night earthquake in central Oklahoma, but it doesn’t appear to have woken anyone up.
The quake hit around 9:30 p.m. on July 21 northeast of Oklahoma City near Chandler. Local police and Lincoln County sheriff’s dispatchers said they’d received no calls about the quake, damage or injuries.
The geological survey reported on its Web site late Tuesday that the quake had a magnitude of 3.3, with a depth of about three miles.
It’s the second small trembler to hit the area since July 17, when a 2.2 magnitude quake shook south of Oklahoma City around the town of Purcell.
The survey records about 50 earthquakes a year in Oklahoma, though few are reported as being felt by residents.
