New Orleans Settles Outstanding Insurance Claims
The New Orleans City Attorney’s Office has settled a longtime dispute over outstanding insurance claims for property damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
WWL-TV reports the city, which sought $23.6 million in unpaid insurance claims from Westchester Surplus Lines Insurance Company, settled for two payments of $11.8 million, beginning May 14.
Mayor Ray Nagin signed the settlement April 29.
The city says settlement funds will be used for recovery projects and equipment.
The city prior to the settlement had only received $21.8 million of the $45.4 million in claims.
