Texas 2010 HMO Report Shows Increase in HMO Complaints
Complaints against Texas HMOs in 2010 increased 13 percent from 2009 according to the thirteenth annual HMO report issued by Office of Public Insurance Counsel (OPIC). The report, now online at www.opic.state.tx, allows consumers to compare the quality of care delivered by Texas HMOs.
OPIC’s report, “Comparing Texas HMOs 2010” features the results of a consumer satisfaction survey of HMO members. It also includes an analysis of complaint data collected by the Texas Department of Insurance and information on Independent Review Organization appeals.
“This report is a valuable tool for consumers to use in evaluating their health plan options,” said Deeia Beck, Public Insurance Counsel and Executive Director of OPIC. “We encourage all Texans to carefully read through benefit packages, ask questions, and compare plans,” said Beck.
