Texas Co., Recalls Fruit Medley Due to Salmonella Concern
A Houston producer of fresh-cut fruit products has ordered a recall because of fear that the imported Mexican papaya contained in the products could be contaminated with salmonella.
GHSW LLC obtained the papaya from Agromod Produce Inc. of McAllen. The South Texas importer says the Blondie, Yaya, Mananita and Tastylicious brand papayas sold before July 23 could be linked to 97 reported salmonella cases in 23 states, including 10 hospitalizations.
The papaya was contained in Garden Highway Island Medley, Central Market Island Medley, Central market Papaya Spears, Central Market Tropical Medley and Central Market Tropical Salsa sold in Texas since July 23
Mexico’s Agriculture Department has said it’s “premature” to single out Mexican papaya as the outbreak source, but the company that exported the fruit is being inspected.
