Water Patrol Boat Catches Fire During Rescue in Louisiana
No one was injured after a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Water Patrol boat caught fire during a rescue.
Patrick Begnaud called the sheriff’s office Sunday saying he and three passengers were stranded in a boat with an overheated engine in Lake Mechant near Theriot, La. The Courier reports agents later found them, and tied the water patrol boat to Begnaud’s boat and began towing it.
As the boats were heading toward Falgout Canal Landing, the water patrol boat hit a sand bar. Begnaud’s boat then crashed into the motor of the water patrol vessel, causing it to catch on fire.
The fire was quickly extinguished, and nobody was hurt. Authorities say another boat came out and took the people to the marina.
