Grant Provides Radio Equipment for Louisiana Fire Stations
More than 350 radios to be sent to Louisiana fire stations in Calcasieu Parish are being paid for with $884,000 in Federal Emergency Management Agency grant money in an effort to improve communication during emergencies.
Lloyd Miller, communications planner for the Calcasieu Office of Emergency Preparedness, tells the American Press the money came from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
Miller said it paid for 197 portable radios for firefighters and 110 mobile radios, which will be placed in fire trucks.
There are also 40 radios that will be placed in fire stations and 12 radios that can be programmed to keep in contact with 911 emergency dispatchers.
Miller said the radios allow fire departments in different cities to communicate during emergencies.
