Severe Weather Damages Oklahoma High School
Officials say severe weather that tore through Lawton, Okla., on Memorial Day caused up to $400,000 in damages to a high school.
Superintendent Barry Beauchamp says the storms seriously damaged the gymnasium at MacArthur High School. The superintendent tells Lawton television station KSWO that insurance should cover the repairs.
School has been out for a week so repair work won’t disrupt classes.
Officials say high winds ripped skylights off the gym’s roof and water pooled on the gym’s wood floor. Beauchamp says the bleachers will likely need to be replaced, too.
Beauchamp says repairs should take six to 10 weeks to complete.
