Holiday Fire Levels Warehouse in Louisiana
Authorities are trying to determine the cause of a Thanksgiving Day fire that leveled a furniture warehouse in Carencro.
The fire was reported around 8 a.m. at the warehouse for “All Wood Furniture.” Owner David Duhon got the call about the fire around 8:30 a.m.
Carencro Fire Chief Oren Haydel said it took about 45 minutes for area firefighters to get the blaze under control. “At this point we’re trying to find out what caused the fire,” he said.
No injuries were reported. The business was closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.
“We had a lot of furniture, custom-built cypress furniture, in there,” Duhon said. “We do have a lot of inventory in there and we had a lot of customers’ furniture for Christmas in there.”
Duhon has insurance on the structure but worried that it would not cover all that was lost in the fire.
The business has two showroom stores, one on the Evangeline Thruway and another on West Pinhook Road.
“We’ll still keep our two stores open and we have another building where we can build out of,” he said.
The Carencro Volunteer Fire Department and Lafayette Fire Department fought the fire with help from firefighters from Scott, Broussard, Judice, and Milton.
