Tunnel Damages Forces Arkansas Motel Residents’ Relocation
Eight people living in a Hot Springs, Ark., motel had to be relocated after inspectors found a drainage tunnel over which they were living to be unstable.
Officials said Tuesday that the tunnel running under several dwellings at the Relax Inn on Park Avenue was in danger of collapse. The residents were moved to other units at the motel that are on solid ground.
The Sentinel-Record reports that a plan to fix the tunnel will have to be developed. The city maintains drainage structures on public rights of way but the tunnel under the motel is on private property.
The tunnel serves as the main drainage system for a large part of the northern and eastern parts of Hot Springs.
