Louisiana Town Council to Discuss Police Protection
A temporary deal for the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office to provide law enforcement protection in the Louisiana town of Sorrento expires Tuesday night.
The deal was put in place after the town’s police department lost insurance coverage in November. Sheriff Jeff Wiley has offered to take over law enforcement in the area, but so far, no permanent agreement has been signed.
The town council meets Tuesday night to discuss the issue.
The initial service agreement for sheriff’s patrols in Sorrento was supposed to expire on December 21, but Wiley granted the town an extension.
Meanwhile, WAFB TV reports Police Chief Earl Theriot has working to find another insurer.
